Welcome to Viby Gymnasium

Viby Gymnasium is a high school located in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark.

Our high school was established in 1965, and we offer two education programs: the three-year STX program and the two-year HF program. Viby Gymnasium has around 750 students and 85 teachers. Our students are between 16 and 20 years of age.

Viby Gymnasium is a value-based academic institution, which places a strong emphasis on:

  • Curiosity
  • Commitment
  • Responsibility

Our aim is to offer our students an educational approach which is innovative and creative in its practice. In a world of constant change, we find it extremely important to give our students the tools and knowledge to understand and influence the world around them.

To meet this ambition, we have decided to focus on three specific areas:

  • Talent
  • Cooperation with companies and institutions
  • Globalization (internationalization)

In relation to the above areas, we have taken the following initiatives:

Talent
Viby Gymnasium is the host school of the Danish Academy for especially gifted young people. Furthermore, the students from Viby Gymnasium each year take part in various academic competitions and challenges.

Cooperation with companies and institutions
For a number of years, Viby Gymnasium has had an extensive cooperation with the University of Aarhus, the second oldest university in Denmark. This is, of course, a relationship which we want to continue to develop, and parallel to this, we have decided to strengthen our ties with a number of companies and institutions with the aim of developing more systematic partnerships.

Globalization
At Viby Gymnasium the global aspect is included in the general education curriculum and throughout the year, our school carries out several initiatives with an international perspective.

In relation to this, we have the following international programs for our students:

  • Exchange visits each year for the most talented of our students who study Spanish or German as a Foreign Language. In relation to this, we have partnerships with schools in Northern Germany and in Spain.
  • For our most talented students who study English, we each year offer a trip to the east coast of the United States to study American culture, history and society.
  • In the second year of high school, all our students go abroad to a European destination for one week to study
